Week 04 – Salute

This week we lost a brother-in-arms. There are no words to express the deep sorrow that is felt by all who knew and loved George (Bacon) Bougas. He was a giant contributor to the SA music scene and a formidable frontman with a true African heart. The legendary Hog Hoggidy Hog – who’ve been representing the SA punk (pork) rock scene for 20 years – need no introduction, and this week our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and band mates, and all those who were touched by his incredible warmth and spirit.

This mixtape is dedicated to you, George. A bit of SA punk, rock and metal – some dating as far back as 1978! Hope you enjoy!

Also, be sure to check out the documentary, Punk in Africa’ – the untold story of the multi-racial punk movement in South Africa, Mozambique & Zimbabwe within the recent political and social upheavals of our time.

From one frontman to another, I salute you, George. We salute you. Your music will live on forever. R.I.P

  1. SA Mixtape is a great way to discover and re discover what makes the local music out put so damn brilliant. South African artists work as hard at their craft as anyone anywhere and listening to this further illustrates the absurdity of it’s inability to cross the great divide to global greatness much of it deserves. This is a perfect mix to the memory of George Bacon – eternal respect and love for the man. The Lancs are amped, honored and privileged to have been included in this massive company. Thanks SA Mixtape for making it possible for a song written over 30 years ago to continue to have some relevance today. Love and support to this project – Lancaster Band
